Under Others’ Expectations

“Under Others’ Expectations” is a work about the pressure of external judgment — the weight of being seen and trying to restrain one’s true self. It speaks to a familiar feeling: the need to conform, to be understood and accepted, to stay within the boundaries of others’ perceptions.
The work visualizes this burden as a pile of crumpled fabrics covering the body — a metaphor for the weight of others’ expectations. Outwardly we appear dressed and protected, yet under the gaze of others, whether real or from social media, we feel exposed and vulnerable.
For the artist, this work reflects the search for balance between one’s authentic self and the person one is expected to be — a dialogue between the heaviness we carry and the fragility we try to hide.
